The Virginia Range Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the Virginia Range as a home for all its inhabitants. While the wild horses of the Virginia Range are our primary concern, we are involved from the ground up in restoring native plants, the natural springs that feed them, and all the other animals that make this a total ecosystem.

We consider the wild horse a perfect barometer of our success. These animals occupy a delicate position in the large animal predator-prey relationships and thus their success will demonstrate that our program is being successful with the ecosystem as a whole.

Restoring the range and its native plants is a keystone to the success of the horses and the restoration of the natural springs that dot the landscape is critical not only to the large animals but also the native reptiles, birds, and small mammals that exist here. Because no large scale development has yet occurred over much of the range, this goal is possible.
